The building housing Aniseed Cafe is to be auctioned 30 May.

The limited number of properties in the Village do not come onto the real estate market very often.

Tenancies may change but the ownership of the bricks and mortar has been tightly held.

Partly this has been because there are 10 "upstairs" residences - some occupied by the building owners or family members.

The small footprint of each property - particularly on the southern side of Silverdale Road - and the tapering shape of those by the bend, means limitations to the 2023 use of 1926 to 1950s shops.

The difficulties can be overcome - as shown by the successful extension of the building occupied by Elliott Steele hairdressers and the upstairs financial services business.

The difficulties can endure - as shown by the longstanding vacant lot (formerly Paul Martin Hairdressers) & the "construction interruptus" of the former butcher shop.

Personnel Change In The Village

Popular barista Kathy has been with Debbie at the Eaglemont Dish for many years - my guess is 8 to 10 years.

Her daily commute from the northern suburbs is a big time consumer for a young mother. She has secured a position closer to home to allow more involvement with young Henry, his school and extra-curricula activities.

A staff farewell dinner has been  held.

We wish Kathy well, & thank her for her coffee and conversation making at the Dish, where she has been a fixture since well before Covid.

We also vote Debbie a special mention for keeping the Dish team together through the trials of the Covid era and since.

(Will has been seen back in the Village recently; Bridget is still o/s, last reported in Berlin.)

• VicTrack employees will be at Eaglemont Station 16 May as volunteers assisting FofEV (a.k.a. Eaglemont Stationeers) with our grounds beautiful task from Odenwald Road bridge to Ashby Grove underpass. VicTrack have donated $2000 of plants for this activity, and are funding morning tea & lunch.

Odenwald Road Bridge - Is There Imminent Progress?

‌

The drilling rig sighted off Studley Road by the bridge supports last week would not have been seeking gas, oil, water or minerals.

Information is being sought from Banyule Council about this development - is it indicative of more substantial work than proposed in their traffic management plans, or is it a sign of low tolerances for the existing structure to carry any additional static loads?
