About Us

Friends of Eaglemont Village

Friends of Eaglemont Village (FoEV) works to build community connections, improve our environment and advocate for our neighbourhood.

We started out as a group of concerned citizens who successfully delivered better environmental outcomes during the installation of the railway substation over 2017-18.  We then progressed into rehabilitating the rail corridor near the Eaglemont train station in conjunction with the Stationeers program.

Community Connection

We host regular community coffees, working bees and information sessions. To help relieve our community's isolation during the Covid lockdowns, we organised (socially distanced) garden work, kids focussed window displays in the Village shops, alternative Anzac Day ceremonies, and created the Fairy Garden (opposite 39 Sherwood Road).  In 2023 we ran a meet-up series to connect local new mums. Another, Sit and Sew, is for people to bring their craft projects to work on over a cuppa, and continues at 2 pm on the first Thursday of each month (not January), at The Dish café.

Improving our Environment

Rehabilitation of the rail corridor is done in conjunction with Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria’s Stationeers program, Banyule Council and Landcare Victoria.   We run volunteer events such as planting & beautification working bees, bushland wildflower walks, continue to improve the fairy garden, as well as Clean Up Australia and National Tree Day events.

Once a month a small team attends Ryder-Cheshire Homes in Ivanhoe to undertake volunteer grounds maintenance to help a charity service. They provide accommodation to country people needing to be in Melbourne for their own or a family member's medical treatment which is not available near their homes.

Advocating for our neighbourhood

FOEV advocates for our community through consultation with council, rail and other authorities on issues such as the substation, Odenwald Bridge, planning matters, improved green space and community facilities, eg public toilets.
