Dogs of Eaglemont #53

A salute to our canine companions
Dogs of Eaglemont #53

The variety of dogs seen about Eaglemont continues to surprise.

It's not that we are beset by exotica or constant fashion changes - there seems to be a wide range of choices.

If Duggie came along in a summer clipped coat I would possibly not recognise him

All sizes, all colours, all shapes - wire hairs, silkies, curly coated, flop ears, pointy ears, not much by way of ears at all.

Timid dogs, aloof dogs, indifferent dogs. Rarely aggressive dogs.

Some dogs are such frequent habitùes of the cafes they have fan clubs.

Some naturally deport themselves as fashionistas; others strut about like wannabee brawlers.

Some - like Spinner and Peaches -  sense the camera. Others, nameless here, seem to have no sense of occaision at all.

All add to the aura of our neighbourhood as a dog-friendly place, and we are better for it.

Working Kelpies Are A Joy To Watch

We have quite a few kelpies walking the streets of Eaglemont.

The working dogs on farms, stations and trucks are a breed apart.

Our suburban dogs look the part, and display herding instincts, but are pale imitations of the hill-gatherer kelpies that can work sheep independently of a handler.

Many Types Of Working Dogs

Guide Dogs, Assistance Dogs, Comfort Dogs, Sled Dogs, Police Dogs.

The dogs' acute sense of smell has been put to good use in Postal Customs, in Airports, in truffle hunting etc.

How about technology sniffing dogs?

"In March this year, investigators searched the suspect's home and allegedly found child abuse material on several electronic devices.

Detection dogs trained to detect technological items sniffed out the devices in various locations around the home.

The AFP said in a statement it was first alerted to the alleged material in 2018."

But detecting water pipe leaks?
