Extra Time Winner From Maurie
Maurie gave us a good start to our Planet Ark National Tree Day event, then finished off with an extra time goal to make the weekend an all-round win for the Eaglemont community.
We approached Maurie for permission to have the Banyule Council provided skip in his Sherwood Road forecourt. Agreed without hesitation, and the arrangement worked a treat.
We used the Council provided safety signs along with our own, and the frequent road crossing with green waste was without incident.
Maurie then on Monday saw a tree-felling crew working in Studley Road - and contracted them to finish the day down on Sherwood Road helping out Friends of Eaglemont Village.
Our friends from Equity Trustees worked hard back in May to clear a thicket by the Heidelberg end of the outbound platform. This resulted in a green waste heap waiting removal.
Courtesy of Maurie's initiative and funding we now have useful mulch on site rather than a struggle to get green waste off site.
Good work Maurie, and thank you.
Thank you also to all the neighbours who made their green waste bin space available Sunday.
This generosity will now allow us to press on with planting and mulching rather than waste removal.
Compliments from the neighbours are coming in for the clean up and new plantings.
Euan regaled with Happy Birthday
Sporting his Melbourne tie and decked out in his birthday clobber, Euan and family stepped onto Sherwood Road en route to the MCG - Dees v Tigers.
Bit of an unexpected bonus to have a working bee break into a rough and ready rendition of "Happy Birthday".
An even bigger bonus for him when the Dees climbed out of an abyss to eventually beat the Tigers.
As Euan later confided "getting done by Richmond could really muck up your birthday celebration."
Hearing has dropped off a bit with age but I think I heard him correctly.
