Pleasing bit of rain after a dry couple of months - unless you are trying to complete an outdoors paint job.........

Did you know October is regularly Melbourne's wettest month?

Naturally this rainfall is welcome to get our bits of bushland in good condition heading into the summer months.

Bird of the Week

Kingfishers

Australia is home to several species of kingfishers. In our area those most likely to be seen are the Azure Kingfisher and the Kookaburra.

The smaller kingfishers - while brightly coloured - are shy, quiet birds. They are generally seen when darting from a quiet perch to nab unwary prey.

Plant of the Week

Hoary Sunrays

One of the many daisy-flowered Australian natives - the flowers of sub-species readily available can be either white or yellow.

These plants are suitable for the garden or containers. A long Spring and Summer flowering period. Dry conditions preferred.

The foliage is grey/green.
