Football telecasts can be irritating even without gambling ads
There is considerable community angst about the promotion of gambling during televised sport.
Merely annoying to some - a danger to society and individuals according to others.
Of particular concern is exposing impressionable young people to "in play" sporting wagering odds, and exotic "instant bets" on first goal scorer etc.
This is not a modern curse - it has been with us right here in the Heidelberg local government area for over a hundred years.
Our then Heidelberg Council debated the matter and called on the local constabulary to be a bit more pro-active in chasing bookmakers away.
School sports days were blighted by bookmakers taking bets on childrens sports!
