Know Your Place # 12

Our built environment is just as impressive as the fine landscape on which it has been constructed.
Know Your Place # 12

Eaglemont has many fine examples of residential architecture spanning 3 centuries.

High on the list of notable properties are those designed by Harold Desbrowe-Annear.

The inaugural Archibald Prize in 1921 went to Melbourne artist WB McInnes for this portrait of Harold Desbrowe Annear (1865-1933), one of Melbourne’s leading architects in the early years of the 20th century.

The Australia Institute of Architects has named its annual award for Residential Architecture after Harold Desbrowe-Annear.

He was a very influential architect in his era. We are privileged to have in Eaglemont multiple examples of his work - including the house he and his wife built for themselves.

Readers should be alert to opportunities offered by current owner Jane C - through Heidelberg Historical Society - for tours of the remarkable property that Jane and her late husband faithfully restored.
