Let's Brighten This Place Up

Looking beyond botanical adornment
Let's Brighten This Place Up
Private placement or public - it still enlivens the place

We live in a lovely part of Melbourne.

The individual houses and the avenues of street trees combine into great streetscapes.

From elevated vantage points we enjoy all the distant views along and across the Yarra. The Dandenongs, the city skyline, Kinglake.

An area that was once regarded as Melbourne's pre-eminent picnic, social sports and recreational outing spot has matured into........suburbia.

Quality suburbia beyond question.

Given limited (very limited, non-existent?) public spaces to recover our former status, what can be done?

Public places visual arts can be introduced, for a start.

Low space requirements,  attracting visitors to our cafes and bars, giving locals another reason to get out walking and socialising.

Garden art can span the divide between private and public spaces.

A rich arts heritage - why no arts?

Garden poles allow simple construction, take little space and great scope for decoration

There is ample scope for community involvement in designing, creating and installing artworks in public spaces.

Why have bland when you can have breathtaking?
