We thank Nilss for his many contributions, and will run a bumper edition of these for your holiday reading in the next Newsletter (22 Dec).
Message from President Steve Cullen:
I am delighted to have been elected as the President of Friends of Eaglemont Village for the coming year and want to particularly thank our outgoing President Stephen Lake for all his leadership and hard work through this year.
Together with our newly appointed Treasurer, Brett Barclay and Secretary, Mike Fittall, as well as all our hard working members, I am looking forward to continuing the work of building community connections, improving our environment and advocating for our neighbourhood.
Steve Cullen
President, Friends of Eaglemont Village
Around the Village
The Post Office has Christmas stamps and Charity cards in stock now. On the subject of cards, please consider donating cards you don't want any more (used and unused) to us to pass on to Ryder Cheshire Homes. Volunteers there turn them into new cards as a fundraiser. So instead of putting them in the recycling bin, give them to us (Mary and George will pass them on to us).
The Eagle Bar: There has been some activity in the Cellars and it seems they will be opening soon! This will be very welcome as it has been a long time ....
And Eaglemont Automotive is leaving the village just before Christmas, relocating to Christmas St, Fairfield. We wish them all the best for the new location.
A couple of disappointing things have happened recently. The crates left at the Bluestone Bed on Sherwood Road with water-bottles have been disappearing. This makes it very difficult for us to leave supplies of water so passers-by can help us with watering. The ground is incredibly dry as, except for the lovely rain we had today, we haven't had much rain at all since mid-October (and it was already dry before then). Our new plantings really need a lot of watering if they are to survive in these conditions and the forecast hot dry summer. If you are able to help with regular watering near you, please let us know (eaglemontvoice@outlook.com).
The other thing was ...
... damage to a significant plant near the Fairy Garden - it was broken off and the damaged stem just left exposed, which looks unsightly and could let in disease and kill the plant. We have now tidied it up, but we obviously can't easily replace such a significant plant.
In better news, early in November the Meet Up and Make It craft group celebrated Margaret's 90th birthday. The group meets in the Dish on the first Thursday of each month, at 2 pm. Some bring projects they are working on, some bring mending, others just come for a chat - all welcome!
Remembering John: on 11 November a small group gathered in the Fairy Garden to remember John Walkley, and to plant a tree.
Free Wildflower walks: If you have been along Sherwood Road recently you may have noticed some of the plants now have labels, thanks to a grant from Australia Post. There are more coming, thanks to sponsorship from Bendigo Bank. If you and your group would like a guided tour and explanation of some of our work along Sherwood Road please get in touch via eaglemontvoice@outlook.com. You can also join us at the Christmas Market on 8 December - tour leaving at 11 am, please book via eaglemontvoice@outlook.com
Water World: Thanks to Mary V for this interesting snippet.
Ever wonder where our water comes from, goes to? Seeking an answer takes us down an intricate path, one that clearly demonstrates our connectivity to the world at large.
